  Directorate Of Languages

Gujarati Version

Introduction

  1. With the formation of Gujarat State in May, 1960, Gujarati language and Hindi language with Devnagri Script have been accepted as official languages.
     

  2. Directorate of Languages has been set up in August, 1960 to implement these official languages.
     

  3. The head of the office is the Director of Languages.
     

  4. Non-Statutory literature is translated in this office.
     

  5. Translation, Research, Training and language related exams of the Government employees are the main functions of this office.
     

  6. Speeches of Honorable Governor, Chief Minister & Ministers, Finance Minister’s Budget Speech, Annual and Five Year Plans, Budget Publications, Manuals, Circulars, Reports, Books-Booklets etc. are translated in this office.
     

  7. Eleven Five Year Plans, 87 manuals such as (1) Bombay Contingent Expenditure Rules 1959 (2) Bombay Survey and Settlement manual volume 1,2. (3) Manual of Election laws etc. have been translated in the office till today.
     

  8. This office has prepared dictionaries, glossaries, training related literature, which is helpful in research work and administration and they are reprinted.
     

  9. Till now, the office has prepared books like Trilingual Administrative Dictionary, Gujarati-Gujarati Dictionary, Gujarati-English dictionary, Bruhad Vahivatee Paribhaasha Kosh, Dictionary of Administrative Terminology, Administrative Style of Writing etc.
     

  10. This office has prepared thirty-four glossaries and seventeen lexicons.
     

  11. Four issues of quarterly magazine "Rajbhasha" are published In a year in Gujarati and Hindi.
     

  12. Four exhibitions and seminars regarding official language are organized in a year.
     

  13. Training classes for four days regarding Gujarati language are organised at 10 districts including Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad during four times a year.
     

  14. 497 classes have been organised till today.
     

  15. Classes of Hindi language are organised at Gandhinagar. Till now, 66 classes have been organized where 915 trainees were trained. Out of which, 806 trainees have passed.
     

  16. English classes are organized at Gandhinagar for 15 working days at four times a year.
     

  17. Till now, 73 classes of English language have been organized where 1135 trainees have been trained and 985 trainees have passed post training examination.
