The main objectives and polices of the
Directorate of Museums
-
To impart
non-formal education to the students and
the general public through museum
educational services.

To
inculcate in the mind of general public
a love and respect for the traditions
and cultural heritage of our country .

To make
each museum an active centre of
education, inspiration and information
at all levels
The Department
of Museums is mainly concerned with the
activities as mentioned below:

To
preserve culture heritage and enrich the
government museums by addition of new
collections under the treasure trove
act, through art purchase committee,
gift, field work, etc.

To provide
educational facilities to general
public, scholars, researchers, students,
of university, colleges and schools, to
organize workshops, training programs
seminars, conference, popular lectures,
educational films shows, slide shows and
special thematic exhibitions for the
educational benefit of students and
general public.

To supply
necessary information and guidance to
the research- students and scholars in
their respective fields of interest and
study.

To carry
out research work on various museum
subjects for the purpose of enriching
knowledge and interpretation of cultural
heritage.

To bring
out popular museum publications with a
view to propagate museum educational
activities and to make people conscious
about their culture heritage.

To bring
research publications based on research
on Museum exhibits for enriching
knowledge.

To carry
out the taxidermy work of stuffing and
mounting of skin of mammals and birds
for display purpose.

To carry
out the work of preservation of
antiquities and works of art and also
objects of science in museum collections
of the department of museums.

To
reorganize old museums which are in bad
shape on modern museological lines for
the educational benefits of students and
general public.

To provide
grant-in-aid to non-government museums
for the purpose of their maintenance and
development.

To
establish new museums at historical
places and tribal areas.
